- When did Help Bags begin?
Help Bags was founded in 2009 by Penny Smullen in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- What is in a Help Bag?
The focus of the Help Bag program is to provide the homeless with temporarily staples to ‘help’ them thru their day. These items include small snacks and first aid items.
- Is Help Bags 501C3 certified?
Help Bags is currently working towards 501C3 certification.
- How many Help Bags have actually reached the homeless to date?
As of 11/2009 over 800 Help Bags have been distributed, face to face, to homeless in the inner city of Charlotte!!
- Are Help Bags only distributed in NC?
So far. Help Bags started at one donation facility and has since branched out to 4 counties in North Carolina. For more information on starting a Help Bags chapter in your own town please see the Contact are of this site.
- Who pays for the supplies for these Help Bags?
Help Bags survives solely on the donations of supplies from caring community members like you!
- What items are in a Help Bag that I can donate?
Standard sized Band-aids, individually wrapped crackers/cookies/ snacks, individually packed Tylenol type products, new men’s white sport socks, individually wrapped Moist Ones type handi-wipes, one day bus or train passes. No donation is too small or unappreciated! Please feel free to contact me via the contact area of this site to arrange pickups/ drop off of donations.
