Our Purpose 2011~ Out of the Bag and Into Their Hands!
I have volunteered with pretty much any cause you can think of but advocating the plight of the homeless is where my heart found it’s calling. The reason I had this life changing realization happen in my life is because I got out there and volunteered at a church in Charlotte who served the homeless.
In 2009 I began Help Bags. Help Bags are gallon sized Ziploc bags filled with wet wipes, 2 Band-aids, 2 snacks, a hot pack for feet or hands, Tylenol and a brand new pair of warm socks. At the time this was a great help to many I was in contact who found themselves homeless on the streets of four counties. The situation has changed though & I now find myself only able to deliver Help Bags to facilities who already have feeding facilities and first aid/nurse on staff. All of a sudden the majority of HB items weren’t really needed. I felt a little useless – what to do now? Walk away from Help Bags? Did it run it’s course? NO! I investigated and different facilities, their needs, their causes and complied it all for you in easy to read lists of needs and contact information.
I have learned through my time spent in the world of volunteering that the majority of people ‘want to help’ but either lack the time, motivation or tools to follow through.
I want this site to be there to Help! You will find links on how you can volunteer your items, time or funds. Get involved! Get out there! Spend time as a family or with friends or be super brave and go out by yourself! Spend and hour or spend a day! Where is your passion? Seize 2011 from the get go and make a difference in the cause that is calling out to you!
Help Bags won’t be packaged in gallon sized Ziplocs in 2011 ~ Help Bags will now encompass a much larger scale of needed items to those in need. Clothes, office supplies, toys, tools, the list goes on and on. YOU CAN HELP! Reach out in 2011!
